Caribbean – Pacific Tour

11 Days / 10 Nights : From the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean

Day 01: Arrival in San Pedro Sula ( Honduras )

Arrival at the airport and transfer to your hotel in town. Greeting by our tourguide and briefing of the motorcycle tour. Overnight in San Pedro Sula.

Day 02: Transfer to La Ceiba / Rio Cangrejal     
Transfer to La Ceiba which is a small port town at the Caribbean sea where we hand over the motorcycles. After lunch we take a short ride from La Ceiba into the „Pico Bonito” National Park to an impossibly green canyon with jungle scenery. We follow a winding dirt road along the Rio Cangrejal. This trip offers spectacular views: a waterfall plunging more than 300 feet from the canyon walls and rapids sliding around sculptured granite boulders.   Overnight in a jungle lodge in the National Park.

Day 03:  La Ceiba – Trujillo                                    
For a while we stay on the highway to Trujillo before we turn off passing vast banana plantations.  We continue on a dirt road until we meet the highway to Trujillo again. Trujillo was the first capital of Honduras in the year 1525. It was here that Christopher Columbus landed in 1502 and the pirate William Walker was executed. We stay overnight outside of Trujillo right on the beach in Campamento.

Day 04: Trujillo – Catacamas                                  
Today we will leave the humid climate of the Caribbean coast behind us when riding up the “Sierra de Agalta” mountains through pine forest and reaching the valley of Olancho, the biggest cattle farming area of Honduras. Overnight in Catacamas.

Day 05:  Catacamas – Danli                 
On our way to the southern part of Honduras we have a high percentage of unpaved roads and challenging road conditions until we get into Danli, where they make world famous handrolled cigars, because there is much tabacco grown in this area. On working days we can visit a tobacco factory. Overnight in Danli.

Day 06: Danli –  El Salvador – Playa El Cuco        

We stay on the paved road towards the capital of Honduras. In El Zamorano we turn left and follow a dirt road to the South of Honduras and get to the border of El Salavador in El Amatillo. Riding on a paved road we reach the Pacific Ocean just before darkness and stay overnight in Playa el Cuco right on the beach in a hotel with a magnificent view.

Day 07:  From the Pacific Ocean to Perquin
We leave the Pacific behind us and ride into the mountainous Morazan department with the volcano San Miquel on our way. In Laguna de Alegria we will take a look into the crater. Following the paved road from San Miguel and San Francisco Gotera we enter the town of Perquin from the south. Perquin is surrounded by coffee plantations and green pinegroves and is located close to the honduran border.  Overnight in Perquin.

Day 08: Border Honduras to Gracias      
On a dirt road we will pass the highest mountains from El Salvador to Honduras. This road was the route used to supply the rebels during the El Salvador civil war. Up to 1800m high we enjoy the fantastic view over the region. We will pass the border, pass Macala and get to Gracias – a small attractive mountain town with cobblestone streets and red tile roofs. Overnight in Gracias.

 

Day 09:  Lago de Yohoa
Depending on weather and road conditions we turn off to Santa Barbara passing a mountainous dirt road to Lago de Yoho splendidly set among tropical vegetation. We will stop at the lake for lunch where many little restaurants offer a beautiful view overlooking the lake. Spend the afternoon just relaxing at the lake. Overnight at Lago de Yohoa.

Day 10: Lago de Yohoa – La Ceiba
In the morning we take a trip on a paved road to the highest waterfall of Honduras called „Pulhapanzak” with a magnificient cascade of 40 m . It is located in a kind of park with tropical plants and there is a place to swim in the river. In the afternoon we ride back to La Ceiba where the tour ends. Overnight in La Ceiba.

Day 11: Departure
Transfer to the airport of La Ceiba for your departure flight in San Pedro Sula ( SAP )

Or extension of your vacation on the Bay Islands for snorkeling or diving..

Total Distance :  1850 km about 450 km dirt roads : we can customize this tour with a higher percentage of dirt roads ( up to 60 % ) if required !

Per Day : 80 – 305 km

Road condition :  mostly pavement, dirt and gravel roads

Motorcycle : Yamaha XT 600 E / XT 660 R

riding skills : This tour is dedicated for those riders who are looking for a higher percentage of challenging dirt road conditions. We do not ask for off road riding skills.
