The Caribbean Motorcycle Tour is an adventurous trip designed for
those who are interested in a multifaceted tour including biking and river
rafting as well as seeing the local culture and history. We are also
into meeting and partying with the locals and some beach relaxation.
The Mayan temples in Copan will cover the local culture and history.
The Rio Cangrejal outside of La Ceiba offers worldclass rafting.
The small porttown of La Ceiba and Tela with its nightlife is well
known for partying with the locals and the Bay Islands is a perfect
place for relaxing on coconut framed beaches.
Routing
Day 1: Arrival at San Pedro Sula
Transfer from airport into town. Enjoy the tropical atmosphere of
the hotel while given all the information about the tour and getting familiar with the
motorcycles. Overnight in San Pedro Sula.
Day 2: San Pedro Sula - Copan
Ruinas ( 160 km )
We head off to Copan
Ruinas – the place of the Mayan ruins famous for the ballcourt, the
longest hieroglyphic stairways and the rosalila temple. We will tour the
ruins in the afternoon with a specialized guide. Overnight in Copan Ruinas.
Day 3 : Copan Ruinas – Lago de Yohoa ( 250 km ) We ride back to La Entrada and stay on pavement towards San Pedro
Sula.
At La Ceibita we turn off to Santa Barbara passing a mountainous road to
Lago de Yoho splendidly set among tropical vegetation. We will stop at the
lake for lunch where many little restaurants offer a beautiful view
overlooking the lake. Spend the afternoon just relaxing at the lake.
Overnight at Lago de Yohoa.
Day 4 : Lago de Yohoa – Tela ( 160 km )After breakfast we take a trip on a gravel road to the highest
waterfall of Honduras called „Pulhapanzak" with a magnificient
cascade of 40m . It is located in a kind of park with tropical plants and
there is a place to swim in the river. After lunch at our hotel we are
heading towards the Caribbean coast on a highway to Tela . Tela is
right on the beach, so enjoy the most beautiful sandy beaches in the
afternoon. Overnight in Tela.
Day 5 : Tela – La Ceiba ( 125 km )
Scenic ride on sandy roads along the beaches of the Caribbean Sea to
„Miami" village. Here is
the entrance of the National Park „Punta Sal" , created to protect
rare and endangered animals like the white faced monkey, ocelot and the
manatee. We can leave the motorcycles behind and take a boatride in a
motorized dugout canoe into the „Laguna de los micos" . On the way
back we will visit the „Lancetilla Botanical Park " , founded by
the United Fruit Company in 1926 to grow a vast collection of tropical
fruit trees and plants. After lunch in Tela we will hit the main road to
La Ceiba. Overnight at a jungle lodge in the Cangrejal valley near
La Ceiba.
Day 6: Pico Bonito Mountains
A short ride into the "Pico Bonito" mountains takes us to an
impossibly green canyon with jungle scenery. From there we follow a winding dirt road
along the "Rio Cangrejal." And on the way back we take a dip in the crystal
clear water. This trip offers spectacular views: a waterfall plunging more than 300 feet
from the canyon walls and rapids sliding around sculptured granite boulders.Here
you can take exceptional whitewater rafting experience . Overnight in our
jungle lodge.
Day 7: La Ceiba - Trujillo
We ride for an hour and stop at a little roadside pullover for our next
exhilarating activity : “canopy tours” offered in the rainforest. You
are hooked up to “zip lines” that run between platforms about 80 feet
up in the trees with a great view of the valley and the deep blue
Caribbean Sea
. Then we
continue on the highway before we turn into a dirt road until we meet the highway to Trujillo. Trujillo was the first
capital of Honduras in the year 1525. It was here that Christopher Columbus landed in 1509
and the pirate William Walker was executed. Overnight outside of Trujillo in
Campamento, a small lodge with bungalows right on the beach.
Day 8: Santa Fe and Campamento Beach
In the morning we visit colorful villages of the "Garifunas" (black descendants
of the African slaves) where life has remained virtually unchanged for
centuries. The dirt
road passes through many little rivers and during the rainy season we might actually get
stuck in the mud! We will have lunch at the comedor "Caballero" in Santa Fe
where Pete, a former cook on a cruise liner, will serve the best kingfish, lobster or
shrimp. In the afternoon, relax on the beautiful beaches of Trujillo by
swimming,
snorkeling or just basking in the sun. Overnight in Campamento.
Day 9: Ride back to La Ceiba - End of the
tour
and departure to your international flight
or extension of your vacation on the islands :
Roatan / Bay Islands.
